Annual Conference 2007

As usual, my company's annual conference was held in March ~ 24th & 25th.

In port dickson this time ~♪

It consisted of 2-days activities, with training course, jungle tracking, and sales presentations.

A Dinner with French

*Phew!* Just sent away a French guest from Switzerland today...

Not only was he tired, so were those who had to "entertain" him...

I am not saying it's a dull chore, but it's denifinitely tiring.

Not only we had to be chauffeur starting from 9am this morning, we also had to show him around until 4.30pm. That was not just it. In fact, it all started yesterday night, when we had to pick him up from the airport and sent him for dinner at a chinese restaurant in KL. By the time I reached home, it was already 12am! Imagine I have to get up at 6am the next morning.

I am never good at entertaning guest or customer. But yesterday night at least I had played my part and talked to him while the others were yapping in mandarin, which he didn't understand, of course!

My boss "forced" me to "bottom up" a glass of chivas on a still-not-so-full stomach, making me feeling dizzy, hot and "high" minutes after. Then I started talking to the French just about any topic. Later I joked to myself that this might be the reason why my boss forced me to drink -- so that I will have the guts to talk to the guest instead of shying away. *Haha!*

In fact, both of us were behaving like old friends and chit-chatting happily away...

Through this experience, I found out that many chinese/taiwanese like to "force" their business partners or VIP guests to drink no matter how the later dislike it. The French kept complaining to me about how he didn't like the way we drink (forcefully) but I couldn't help much. I was a "victim" too. I explained to him that it was "culture" and I wonder if he could accept it. Because he was still talking about the unhappy incidence the next morning....

May be they should think about how their guest feel instead of "forcing" people to do things they don't feel comfortable with.

He's a nice and lovely person. However, I don't think all "gui low" will be like him. I have come across many who are racists and arrogant!!!

现在才提起会不会有些迟了？

其实早有读到这篇报导，心中很气，只是当时没有把它写下来。。

后来又读到了，还是很气！！！

事情大略是这样的：
一位印尼女记者被邀请来马报导有关Flower Fest.的launching，
却因不满安排不妥当，回国以后在她个人的部落格发表她的不满和失望。

当大马旅游部长被问及此事时，却表示：
“Bloggers are liars. They use all sort of ways to cheat others. From what I know, out of 10,000 unemployed bloggers, 8,000 are women. Bloggers like to spread rumours, they don’t like national unity. Today our country has achievements because we are tolerant and compromising. Otherwise we will have civil war. Malays will kill Chinese, Chinese will kill Malays, Indians will kill everybody else.”

这惊人的言论，不但引起博客的公愤，也丢尽了大马人的脸！！！

Why is he the Malaysian Tourism Minister in the first place??!!!

Ok, ok.... I have a decent & well-paid job,
I don't lie on my blog...

原来这种人只有这些能耐。。。
他的数据是从哪来的？？
就算对一个人的不满，也不可以打翻整条船啊！！

后来~
当然他不承认说过这样的话啦！！
这些人最会做这种事情。
哈哈！最sarcastic的是，
有博客已预言他将会站出来澄清说媒体曲解了他的意思。
Bingo! 果然给说中了！

有趣的是~
有个博客觉得很丢脸，
还个人代表大马向外国人道歉呢！

最不喜欢Vincy的声音太像王菲了。。。

虽然我不懂Mika的是不是真正的原唱，

不过我知道后来还有中文和韩文版，都没有比日文版来得好听♪♪

~~Really tasted like alcohol... if you get what i mean..
Both of us only managed to drink 1/4 of the bottle.

BBQ on Eve of Chap Goh Meh～♥♡

Had a BBQ yesterday night at company's hostel.

Purposes:
○ farewell for 2 collegues
● "celebrate" closing of hostel
○ celebrating end of CNY???
● a small gathering (^0^)/


We were the 3 "strong women" bbqing the whole night o(^-^)o
while the others sat back, waiting for us to serve them,
chit-chating and having fun.

Luckily, there were a few of them helping out from time to time.

Some Thoughts to Share

How do you motivate your staff?

Or may be I should ask,

How do you motivate yourself?

Not long ago I heard one of my senior managers saying that my biggest boss dislikes the idea of motivational talk. He believes the only way to motivate is by self-motivation. To some extent, I do agree. As I was hardly motivated by any motivational talks. May be I was motivated, during that few hours of the talk, but words that went into my right ear would soon find their way out from my left ear.

Then I came across the following from the book, blue ocean strategy:~

"When individuals feel recognized for their intellectual worth, they are willing to share their knowlegde; in fact, they feel inspired to impress and confirm the expectation of their intellectual value, suggesting active ideas and knowledge sharing..... Indeed, in Frederick Herzberg's classic study on motivation, recognition was found to inspire strong intrinsic motivation, causing people to go beyond the call of duty and engage in voluntary cooperation."

Yes, I truly believe that recognition is the best motivation ever. People wants to get recognised and people who gets recognised and valued will often go beyond the call of duty. Be it just a pat on the shoulder or a simple line of compliment. I believe people who receives recognition will work even better.

However, how many managers show appreciation to their surbodinates? How many managers value the importance of motivation? How many scold more than praise?

May be they are too busy with their routine jobs. May be they don't give a damn. May be they are ignorant. May be they are not good leaders. May be, may be...

CNY Holidays の喜与悲

Had about a week off during Chinese New Year.

Other than relaxing at home, basically did nothing more than eating, watching tv, having fun, having some outings as well as some reading...

After some episodes of happy drinking and eating~~
an unlucky encounter!!!


My car's bumper was scratched by someone reckless & unskillful while it was parked at the roof top of Kinta City @ Ipoh!!! ╰（‵□′）╯
There was actually more ~~ the upper part was also badly scratched but I didn't take a picture of it.


The "hit" causing the other side of the bumper out-of-place... leaving a visible gap.

The problem was ~ I parked at a legal place, facing the wall, and since my car was small & short, I just couldn't figure out why it was still hit??!! Was the driver new or was he/she drunk?? Or was he/she not waken up yet?? As it happened in the midday.

Soooo bad that I didn't catch the devil. But no more my car near Kinta City. The 1st time my car went to Kinta City, it was scratched. The 2nd time, it was scratched on the same side, only worser this time ～＞＿＜～ (欲飙无泪)

Ipoh drivers are generally unskillful compared to KL's. Bad luck indeed!!!

我常跟人说 ~ 看完了这部剧，也让我流了一公升的眼泪。。。（┬＿┬）

What am I Reading Recently?

Yes, this is what I am reading recently
~ Blue Ocean Strategy (中译：蓝海策略)
It's another international bestseller.
Luckily, this book is not as thick as "The World is Flat",
and hopefully I can finish it within a month.
★You know, I've always been a slow reader.★

I'd been searching and waiting for the paperback for months because the hard cover was a abit pricey ~~ about RM120.
But obviously, the publisher just wouldn't settle for a cheaper version...

It's indeed an excellent book which teaches you how to create uncontested market space - a blue ocean, instead of having head-to-head competition in a red "bloody" ocean.
Blue ocean strategy is popular and these words are widely used and quoted in marketing strategies.
In fact, those involved in marketing, business or likewise are considered "out-dated" if they do not know blue ocean strategies.

This book has been translated into 36 different languages.

Hopefully I can finish it ASAP so that I can move on to the next good book and recommend it on my blog.（＾－＾）V
(provided i do not "waste" my time surfing the internet and blogging...)

人生一大享受

人生最大享受~你认为是什么呢？

无拘无束地~~
就这样 ~ 没有时间的压迫感。。。
这可是人生一大享受呢！！

还有~
不过比较办不到的是~
可以在冬天泡温泉
那种舒服的感觉 ♪♪(^O^)
至今~还让我念念不忘。。。（"気持ち"！！！）

昨天约同事在One U吃晚餐。。。
逛街时，发现了一间新开的首饰店~~ diva ☆
若没错的话 ~ 是under Miss Selfridge的。
意外地~发现了一些既漂亮又便宜的好东西☆


就是这条链和耳环。。猜多少钱？？
链是RM9... 耳环RM3！！！
原价分别是RM36和RM16。。。
捡到便宜货了也！！！
这比买到贵货（虽漂亮）还高兴！！☆（＾－＾）☆


另外，这条十字架项链也很class~☆
只售RM9。。。原价也是三十多块
这种颜色~配搭也很容易。
妹妹喜欢十字架，所以就毫不犹疑买了下来，想要送给她。
哈 ~ 希望不会不舍得送出去。。。

心满意足以后，还跑到了One U的upper roof
尝试打了人生第一次的棒球！！
还蛮刺激的说。。(>０<)
因为很怕时速超快的球会打到我。。
结果都在闪球。
还好身旁有个“哎呀”教练
总算给我打中了几次☆★☆

不过~
球的速度快而强，
打中的时候手“震荡”。。。有点麻痹的感觉
